Shipping to the USA is Back! 🚀

Hello USA Customers! We are BACK shipping to the USA and sincerely thank you for your patience. We've made a big switch to DHL to ensure a smoother, faster delivery experience:

The New Process (Delivered Duty Paid - DDP)

  • The Shipping Price you see at checkout is the final price.

  • It covers everything: FASTER International Shipping (3-6 business days), all US Tariffs, Duties, and Brokerage/Service Fees.

  • The delivery process is smooth with no secondary payments required at your door.

While the upfront shipping cost may seem high, it transparently covers all mandatory international tariffs and carrier fees. Paying these duties and brokerage fees separately upon delivery would ultimately be a more expensive and frustrating process for you.

Japan Post suspended ALL shipments to the USA in August so private carriers are the only option for receiving wonderful Japanese treats!

 

Maximize Your Value

Due to unavoidable flat-rate international carrier fees:

  • Place Larger Orders: We strongly recommend placing larger orders with multiple items to spread the transport and fixed fees across more items.

  • Stock Up: Japanese candy and snacks have very long freshness dates, ensuring better value and reducing how often you need to pay those fixed shipping fees.

  • Team Up & Share: Consider combining orders with friends and family into a single shipment to effectively share and reduce the import costs per person!

SHIPMENTS TO THE USA ARE STILL PAUSED DUE TO JAPAN POST SUSPENDING SERVICE and UPS HAVING LOGISTAL ISSUES WITH LACK OF TARIFF CLARITY.

We sincerely thank you for your continued interest and support of napaJapan during this challenging time. This pause has impacted us, as it has many in the industry, but we're committed to maintaining our full selection of over 1,000 unique Japanese treats for when US shipping resumes—we'll be ready with the same quality and variety you love. 


In the meantime, every order makes a real difference in helping us navigate this period. If you have friends or family abroad, consider surprising them with a gift of authentic Japanese sweets or snacks. Digital gift cards are another easy way to share the joy. Or, if you're traveling internationally soon, simply use your destination address at checkout to ship directly there. WE ARE TEMPORARILY SUSPENDING ALL SHIPMENTS TO THE USA DUE TO MASSIVE BACKLOGS WITHIN THE UPS SYSTEM CAUSED BY THE NEW TARIFF REGULATIONS. 

Sorry for the inconvenience. We will let you know once the service is resumed. There are no other shipping options available at this time as Japan Post paused commercial service to the the USA in August.

We want to keep you informed about recent changes affecting your order’s delivery. Due to new U.S. tariff regulations and the removal of the low-value import exemption, as of August 29, 2025, all shipments from Japan now face increased customs processing.


This has caused delays of 7-10 days or more at UPS’s main Louisville hub, where your order will clear the U.S. Customs Service (CBP) and FDA checks. Additionally, Japan Post has suspended all commercial shipping options to the U.S., leaving private carriers like UPS as the only reliable way to deliver your treats.


What This Means for Your Order:

  • Delays: Expect 7-10 days extra for customs clearance after your order reaches the U.S. We’re working closely with UPS and our Japan team to speed things up. Don't be concerned with freshness as all of our products have best before dates months away.

  • Fees: New tariffs (15% on order total) plus UPS Brokerage/Merchandise Processing Fees (We understand that these can add up but are unavoidable under the new U.S. tariff regulations announced in August.)

  • Our Commitment: We’re doing everything possible to ensure accurate paperwork to minimize holds, but the surge in import volume is industry-wide.

We deeply appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate these changes. Private carriers remain the only way to get your Japanese snacks to you.


You’ll receive tracking updates a couple days after your order ships from Sapporo. At present we are monitoring the situation at the UPS hubs and are in touch with our UPS Japan office if/when any issues arise.

Dear U.S. Customers,

The U.S. administration’s new tariff policies, effective August 29, 2025, may impose unexpected customs duties on all international shipments from Japan, a change beyond napaJapan’s control.

To ensure a smooth and transparent experience, we are temporarily pausing Japan Post (USPS) shipping for U.S. orders until we gain clarity on duty application.

We’ve switched to UPS, which provides reliable delivery and clear duty estimates (approximately 15% plus administrative fees) that are to be paid at delivery. Parcels that arrive in the USA prior to August 29 will NOT have tariffs applied.

TIP: For UPS orders, larger orders with many items will significantly reduce per-item shipping costs.

For existing Japan Post orders, we’ll keep you updated on any duties and assist with customs queries. Please note that, as agreed to at checkout, napaJapan is not responsible for paying duties, and refunds cannot be issued for parcels refused due to duties.
